Our Curriculum

What we want our children to learn during their time with us at Little Owls Preschool

Belonging

Just as they are.

Effective Communicators

With a preferred communication style; verbal, non-verbal, AAC, or gestures.

Sensory Awareness

For each child to recognise and learn sensory awareness to support their self-regulation and learning. We aspire for children to recognise how and if they need to move their body to support listening and attention, or use appropriate support tools (fidgets, chews etc).

Individual Strengths

Know their individual strengths; kind, empathetic, a leader, creative, strong, inspiring and more.

Celebrate Differences

Understand and accept individual differences, race, neurodiversity, religion, communities, wealth, and lifestyle.

Learning Ready

School or Home Education

Happy & Confident Learners

Who enjoy learning literacy, maths, science, music, physical, communities and the arts in their own unique ways.

Love for Nature

Connecting with nature's sensory offerings, seasons and wildlife. Including foundations towards sustainability; recycling and growing.

Physical Skills

Independence and knowledge with personal care, hand-washing, toileting, eating, and drinking. Recognising their belongings and dressing skills.

Risk-Taking Opportunities

Climbing trees, balancing, and exploring the natural world with confidence.

Our Pedagogy

How we want our children to learn

Child-Led Learning
Strengths and interests supported by scaffolding and nurturing teachers.
Play & Inquiry-Based
A learning environment centred on play and individual inquiry.
Neuroaffirming Approach
Celebrating and accepting brain differences. These will not be changed; for example, play preferences will be embraced and encouraged, not changed (i.e., stop lining up toys in favour of teaching social play).
The Hygge Approach
The calm and warmth of Hygge's natural lighting, coziness, togetherness and noticing.
Nature-Based Learning
Forest school, free flow outside play, outside in all weathers, tree climbing, gardening, and wildlife care.
Curiosity Approach
Using everyday items to ignite natural curiosity and support critical thinking, problem solving and collaboration.
Loose Parts Play
Natural resources, pinecones, conkers, wood, planks, crates, records, recycling and more.
Sustainability
Reuse food packaging, recycle and buy preloved where possible.
